The Minneapolis Police Department told the Audit Committee on Dec. 8 that it has taken steps to address findings from the 2024 MPD fleet management audit, citing staff changes, new assignments and technology plans intended to reduce a backlog of vehicle-accident investigations.
Deputy Chief Olsen said the audit recommended clearer processes for accident investigations under MPD policy 4 4 11 and that MPD has strengthened staffing for crash reconstruction. "We are at 100 percent cases closed for 2019 and 2020," Olsen said, and added that MPD prioritized more recent years: "We are at 62 percent in 2025, 47 percent in 2023, and 53 percent in 2024."
