An application to rezone 15 acres from agricultural to R‑5 in Farming Township was withdrawn on Dec. 18 after sustained public opposition.
County staff explained the request would have permitted three buildable residential lots; Farming Township had recommended approval and staff said the parcel’s LESA score was 46.55. Applicant Nicholas Korn explained the area’s proximity to an existing recorded plat and argued part of the parcel lay within the county’s concentrated development future land‑use area.
During the public hearing, Ryan Simonitz presented a petition with 28 signatures opposing the rezoning and multiple neighbors raised concerns about loss of rural character, water‑quality risks from increased impervious surface and runoff, traffic and driveway safety along County Road 10, and impacts to nearby farms. After hearing those objections and noting several objecting speakers were family members, Korn told the commission he would withdraw the application.
Staff confirmed the applicant’s withdrawal and no further action was taken on the request at the planning commission. The applicant indicated he would not pursue the rezoning at this time.
