Hartford HHS outlines community-education rollout and backs continuation of senior-center meal services

Jackson Shaheed described a "Community University" program to begin in January offering free 90‑minute courses to residents on topics including governance, healthy homes, health-care literacy, financial literacy, gun violence, trauma coping and homeownership. She said the department is finalizing the calendar and partnerships and will soon roll out outreach to community organizations.
Jackson Shaheed also said HHS has completed work to onboard a PhD to the epidemiology team to improve public data reporting, that the department is updating its strategic plan and environmental policies, and that the HHS mobile van is being fitted with testing equipment and will be used for OD2A testing.
On item 2.9, a mayoral resolution authorizing the City of Hartford’s HHS to continue using cook and prep services at Lattice Kitchen for North End Senior Center lunch meals, Councilman John Gale moved to send the resolution back to City Council with a favorable recommendation; Chair Clark seconded; the committee approved by voice vote and the item was referred to City Council for its Dec. 8 meeting. Chair Clark noted that procurement had not yet provided follow-up information on the item and that the committee was prepared to take action that evening.
Chair Clark asked for clarification on "Hart team" funding; HHS said Deputy Director Patricia McIntosh had sent an update and that staff could provide additional documentation to the committee. Jackson Shaheed confirmed the health department is offering weekday flu clinics (Monday–Friday).
