Summary
The school committee is forming a 13–15 member screening panel and has received strong community interest; applications are due in December with finalist interviews and site visits planned in January and a school committee appointment expected the week of Feb. 9, 2026.
The joint committee on Dec. 10 received a communication about the Holyoke Public Schools superintendent search and the formation of a community screening panel. Dr. Yadelete Rivera Colon, vice chair of the school committee, said organizers had received about 44 expressions of interest for the 13–15 member screening panel and outlined a calendar that moves toward a July 1, 2026 start for the next superintendent.
The screening process will be supported by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. Dr. Rivera Colon said the application deadline for the superintendent position is Dec. 23; semi-finalist interviews are scheduled the weeks of Jan. 5–16, with site visits and finalist interviews Jan. 19–27, and the school committee would aim to appoint a superintendent during the week of Feb. 9. The screening panel will consider representation from parents, staff, business and community stakeholders and will seek to include student voices where feasible.
Committee members encouraged applicants who can commit to the meeting dates and noted a separate online survey will collect broader public input for attributes the community wants in the new superintendent. The committee recorded the communication as received/complied with and thanked organizers and volunteers for their interest.
