Board Adopts Changes to Student Records Policy to Strengthen Data Privacy
Summary
On a 7–0 vote the East Meadow board adopted revisions to policy 5555 (student records) meant to strengthen how the district safeguards student data; the policy will be added to the district policy manual.
The East Meadow Union Free School District Board of Education voted unanimously, 7–0, to adopt revisions to policy 5555 on student records during its December meeting.
Mr. Russo presented the second reading of policy 5555, saying the revisions "primarily address how the district will safeguard student data privacy rights." Trustees asked no substantive questions during the second-reading discussion, and the board approved the policy (mover: Mister Carl; second: Miss Locastro).
Separately, the board held a first reading of policy 53-13.3 on student suspensions; Mr. Russo said that set of revisions focuses on the appeals process for principal and superintendent suspensions and will return for a second reading on Jan. 7.
The adopted revisions to policy 5555 will be added to the district’s policy manual after final processing by the administration.
