The district presentation said outreach this fall — including QR‑coded flyers and student word‑of‑mouth — produced about 18 expressions of interest. Organizers reported approximately eight attendees at the first practice and said about 10 students remain committed as the program moves into the competition season in December. The presentation also said that while girls’ wrestling weight classes are scaled down from boys’ divisions, a program does not require a roster in every weight class to form a club.
Board members asked how club participation would affect scholarship eligibility and competition access. The presenter said clubs can produce the same scholarship opportunities as sanctioned teams, but noted that participation in a state PIAA team championship depends on the school having a sanctioned girls team; clubs may still compete in tournaments, dual meets and PIAA‑recognized events where allowed. On fees and operations, the presenter said the girls wrestling club would be run through the existing Booster Club structure and would undertake fundraising similar to the boys’ wrestling program.
Board members also asked about scheduling and gym space; the administration said district gyms across multiple schools could be used and that most club activities would be scheduled after school to limit evening conflicts. The board moved and adopted section 7 items including the girls wrestling proposal, recorded as no cost to the district.
The decision means the club can hold practices immediately and begin a winter competition schedule pending final operational details from athletics staff. The board did not identify additional district funding for the club; organizers said fundraising and booster support will cover routine operating expenses.
The board is expected to monitor participation and scheduling as the club moves into competitive events in December.
