Richfield board adopts equity policy after third reading

The Richfield School Board voted Dec. 15 to adopt Policy 116, Equity Administrative Guidelines, after a third reading and discussion of revisions made following community and committee feedback.
Administrators said the policy language had been refined to clarify building-leader responsibilities, define hate-speech language, and emphasize teaching comprehensive history and multiple perspectives while highlighting contributions of diverse cultural groups. Board members noted student input gathered through Safe and Supportive Schools and mock school-board exercises and expressed support for the policy.
Director Lewis (recorded in the minutes as moving the motion) moved to adopt the policy and Director Ballas seconded; the board approved the policy on voice vote with the chair recording the passage.
