Ruben Castellon elected chair as board names Angela Sutherland vice chair

Ruben Castellon was elected chair of the Hoke County Board of Education on Dec. 9 following nominations at the board's organizational session. The board attorney opened nominations; Rosa McAllister McRae and Ruben Castellan were both placed on the floor, and Castellon’s nomination carried after members voted.
The board also elected Angela Sutherland as vice chair. The board attorney announced the vice‑chair vote result as three in favor and two opposed. The newly elected chair and vice chair will guide the board through its agenda for the remainder of the meeting.
The organizational meeting followed the board’s policy 2200 procedure for election of officers, which the board attorney read aloud when opening nominations. The board did not debate who would serve as chair during the roll call vote; after the result was announced, Castellon thanked members for their confidence. The board then proceeded to adopt the published meeting agenda under the new leadership.
Next steps: the board will continue with its monthly business under the newly elected officers and will reconvene organizational duties in accordance with board policy at the next regular meeting.
