Jeremy Green, a captain with the city fire department, described how his crew prepares for shifts and responds to 911 calls, saying the unit aims to reassure callers that help is on the way.
"My name is Jeremy Green. I am a captain for the fire department," he said when asked to identify himself and explain his role. He described the team's response role plainly: "Any fire calls, medical calls, you call 911 ... I'm coming. I'm coming to take care of you."
Green said his typical workday begins early. "Our normal day is we get there around about 06:15, 06:30, and then we're setting out things, getting ready for the day, making sure that the station's ready, the trucks are ready," he said. He added that calls can come at any time and that preparation helps the crew respond quickly.
On staffing, Green said, "I've got 8 guys at my station," noting that each person has a specific role and that team members rely on one another to perform those roles correctly. He described his responsibilities as assessing scenes and issuing commands when responding to incidents.
The interview focused on operations and personnel: shift start times, pre-shift checks of equipment and apparatus, crew roles, and the unit's promise of prompt response to 911 calls. No policy changes, budget details, or formal actions were discussed.
