Tipp City board schedules Jan. 7, 2026 organizational meeting; weighs OSBA Legal Assistance Fund

Speaker 5 said the board will elect a president and vice president at that meeting and discussed procedures for allowing a law firm to provide executive approval for hires between board meetings. "Again, at that meeting, we'll elect the president, vice president," Speaker 5 said.
The board also discussed renewal of membership in the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) and whether to rejoin the OSBA Legal Assistance Fund (LAF). Speaker 3 and others described LAF as a low-cost option (about $250 annually) that can provide quick guidance but is not a substitute for retained counsel. "For $250 for an annual coverage, if you use it a lot, it's well worth the money," Speaker 3 said, while noting LAF guidance may still refer members to attorneys for formal legal advice.
Board members emphasized training benefits and discounts for new board members from OSBA programming and said they would consider adding LAF back into the budget for the incoming president and board members. No formal vote on OSBA membership or LAF was taken at the work session; the matter appears on the work agenda for a subsequent meeting.
