The manager of the Keller Senior Activity Center told the parks board Wednesday that center use and programming increased in FY25, with membership and participation trends prompting operational changes.
Key figures: manager Mike Queen reported that the center ended the most recent year with about 2,600 members, an average of 234 daily scans and roughly 58,000 total scans for the year (up from about 48,000 two years earlier). The center reported serving over 11,000 meals through a Metroport Meals on Wheels partnership and running 149 programs (including workshops, special events and trips) during the year.
Program adjustments: to address high demand for popular classes (for example, a balance class with a 70‑person capacity and long wait lists), the center plans additional sessions and schedule adjustments. Staff also described partnerships with UnitedHealthcare (Renew Active program) and the Keller Community Senior Fund, which has sponsored benches and other items.
Operational changes: the center adjusted hours in July to better match usage patterns (weekday hours adjusted and some Tuesday evening programming retained); staff said resident members receive early registration priority and that nonresidents register later in the week, which has affected renewal decisions for some nonresidents.
