City approves GDOT LMIG application listing 5.04 miles of streets for resurfacing

Public Works Director Marty Martin presented an FY26 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) application to the Sandy Springs City Council for approval. The list of streets proposed for resurfacing totals just over 5.04 miles and was compiled using the 2024 pavement condition index (PCI) survey. Martin estimated the total cost to complete the listed work at $1,597,343.73 and said the required 30% local match would be $347,979.74; GDOT’s forecasted LMIG distribution for the city is $1,159,932.46.
Martin told council the city historically applies LMIG funds toward its paving program and that it is customary to request funds slightly in excess of the anticipated need to ensure full use of the grant. Councilmember Melissa Mueller asked about a street (Green Hill Road) with a notably low PCI score; Martin explained long-term reconstruction, utility tie-ins and recent repairs led to a low score and said crews had performed interim repairs to keep the road safe.
Council approved the resolution to submit the application and authorized the mayor to sign the application cover letter.
The resolution commits the city to provide the required local match if the grant is awarded and gives staff authority to proceed with the application and subsequent coordination with GDOT.
