Council approves application to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for rescue equipment

Fire Chief Keith Sanders asked the Sandy Springs City Council to approve participation in the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation grant program. If the city applies and the grant is awarded, the grant administrator will request $39,648 to purchase 84 sets of rapid-rescue belts and ropes for firefighters to use in multi-story rescues.
Chief Sanders said the equipment would give each firefighter an individual rapid-rescue set rather than relying on shared procedures or equipment. He told council there is no local match if the grant is awarded. Councilmember John Paulson moved approval of the resolution and the council voted to authorize the city manager to execute the necessary documents.
The council’s approval allows staff to submit the grant application; award, terms and procurement would follow standard city procedures.
