The commission discussed the capital available for the project; one member reported roughly $11,235 in the pavilion capital account. Members debated sizing, with several saying 12-by-20 and 12-by-24 felt too small and a 20-by-24 footprint was a practical maximum. One commissioner said, "If we can afford it, then we can do it for the year or the better," and another added that a 20-by-24 structure would avoid taking too much of the park's green.
Commissioners discussed installation details and costs that could change the price, including whether the price on the vendor's website was an installed price, delivery and set and level charges, metal roofing, and the type of footing. One member summarized typical installation: "...buried posts, then the posts are mounted to that. They're not going anywhere if that's how they're doing it." The board also talked about including a back wall facing away from Main Street and running electricity to the structure.
The commission asked staff to obtain at least three estimates for a range of sizes (members specifically requested quotes for 18x24, 20x24 and larger options) and to return with more detailed dimensions, recommended roof pitch for snow shedding and total installed costs. No formal procurement decision was made; members said they would budget as needed in the next cycle if estimates exceed current reserves.
Next steps: staff will collect multiple quotes and report back; commissioners indicated a preference for a pavilion sized to hold community programming without dominating the green space.
