Oysterfest organizers report roughly 12,000 attendees; LTAC funds credited with community benefit

Rory Brown, president of Shelton’s Grocery/Rotary Club, presented a recap of Oysterfest and thanked LTAC for event support at the Nov. 18 meeting.
Brown said the event, founded in 1982, draws an estimated 12,000 attendees in recent years and uses online ticketing and RV reservations to estimate visitor origin. He noted about 2,000 online orders and that the event receives donations of shellfish from local suppliers—"Taylor of Shellfish donate[s] over 6,000 of them"—and that all profits are returned to community nonprofits, scholarships and grants.
Organizers described vendor and exhibitor counts (24 exhibitors, 34 food vendors), live music, children's activities and a shucking competition. Councilmembers thanked the team and described LTAC funding decisions as a community multiplier that benefits local nonprofit partners.
What’s next: Brown said Oysterfest will return next year (early October) and staff and the LTAC committee will continue to review funding priorities to maximize community benefit.
