Shelton extends on-call building plan-review and inspection contracts to cover staff shortfalls

Economic development director Jason Dose told the council the building department routinely uses outside firms to cover staffing gaps and recently expanded contract budget authority because of expected residential development. He said the city has hired a new building official starting at the end of the month but recommended exercising one-year extensions as a contingency while the new official gets up to speed.
The council adopted Resolution 1419-1225 to extend the contract with Safe Built LLC (authorization not to exceed $75,000 for 2026) and Resolution 1420-1225 to extend the contract with Clarity Consulting Engineers for the same purposes. Dose said the extensions help provide continuity at the counter and allow the city to keep inspections and plan review responsive during transitions.
