Veterans Affairs director reports claims activity, outreach and legislative priorities

On policy, Dan called attention to two legislative items tracked by the Iowa Commission of Veterans Affairs: a proposal to tie property-tax relief to a veteran’s disability percentage and opposition to any state action that would diminish VA benefits paid to Iowa veterans under the Iowa Code provision referenced in the meeting. He cautioned that disability ratings can change and that administratively linking tax relief to fluctuating ratings could create complexity.
Ending: Dan said he will attend quarterly executive and state meetings next month to advance these priorities and remain available for board questions; the board had no substantive follow-up requests during the presentation.
