The Bayonne Historic Preservation Commission on Dec. 1 adopted its meeting calendar for 2026, agreed to keep meetings starting at 7:00 p.m., and voted to postpone the election of officers until January 2026.
Commission staff presented a proposed calendar that generally follows fourth‑Tuesday meetings with no sessions scheduled in June, July or August and advised commissioners that the City Council had moved its meeting start time earlier this year. After a short discussion of personal schedules and commuting constraints, a motion for a 7:00 p.m. start time was seconded and commissioners indicated unanimous support during a roll‑call confirmation, so the commission retained the later start time.
The commission then debated whether to elect a slate of officers or hold separate votes. One commissioner said they were uncomfortable voting tonight because a planning‑board representative seat had not yet been filled and because the speaker might be unavailable in January. A motion to postpone the election of chair, vice chair and secretary until January 2026 was made and seconded. The clerk conducted a roll‑call count and reported the motion carried, with a majority voting in favor and several abstentions; commissioners will come prepared to nominate a slate in January.
Commissioners also asked staff to check with the finance department in January about remaining budget authority for signage and similar items before the calendar year closes. The clerk was instructed to notify the city clerk that the calendar was adopted so meeting dates can be reserved. The next scheduled meeting was announced as Jan. 27, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., and the reorganization items that were postponed will be taken up then.
