Members of the Conservation Commission told the board they had spent several years seeking a conservation agent and recommended Zino for the role. The commission said Massachusetts requirements include a degree in environmental science or a related field; the board discussed Zino’s academic background as meeting that standard.
The board approved a motion to hire Zino at grade 4, step 1 as an hourly employee. Select board members and commission representatives discussed onboarding logistics — a desk, computer, phone, electronic fob and coordination with human resources (Brian) to finalize the contract and hours. Commissioners said the budget currently supports roughly 15 hours per week, though final hours and terms will be settled by HR.
Because Zino had served on the conservation commission, commissioners noted he will need to resign his commission seat once he becomes an employee to avoid an employee/commissioner conflict. The board welcomed Zino and confirmed he will receive required equipment and access before beginning duties.
