District reports progress on 2020 IT bond: Chromebook refreshes, AV installs and surveillance upgrades in progress

Consultant and the district technology director updated trustees on implementation of the 2020 IT bond: K–12 Chromebook rollouts, teacher-device replacements, classroom interactive displays, video-surveillance upgrades, cabling and planned network refreshes funded in part by E-Rate.
Plant Moran consultant Amy Sassina and district technology staff reported on the status of projects funded by the 2020 IT bond.
Sassina said student Chromebooks were issued across K–12 in 2021 and 2022 and are now entering the district’s 4–5 year lifecycle refresh timeline; teacher devices were recently replaced and conference-room AV and large-area AV projects for secondary buildings were completed in 2023–24. Video surveillance upgrades began at elementary buildings in 2023 with a secondary refresh planned for 2026; structured cabling and a network-refresh RFP are scheduled with anticipated RFP responses in the new year.
Staff said new student devices were being delivered to some buildings the week of the meeting and that deployment will continue through spring. The district noted that E-Rate funds will be used to support major backbone projects (structured cabling and network refresh) and that RFPs for those projects were issued.
Trustees asked about coordination with curriculum initiatives and ongoing integration of devices and AI tools; technology and curriculum staff said they have a tight steering-committee relationship and meet regularly to align procurement and instructional needs.
No bond reauthorization or new bond funding was proposed at the meeting; reports were informational.
