Students spotlight English‑learner progress as district staff warn of unfunded state mandates

Several elementary students described phonics strategies and progress on ACCESS assessments, and older students from the middle and high school credited EL instruction with increasing confidence and academic success. Interim Superintendent Dr. Barbara Starkey and Director of Curriculum Terry Fleming introduced the student presentations to highlight classroom practices and family engagement in the district’s EL program.
