The Town of Lakeville Economic Development Committee on Dec. 15 approved amended drafts of a residential survey and a small-business survey, with members asking staff to incorporate edits that clarify response choices and degree categories.
Members recommended adding a 'Not applicable' option to questions such as whether respondents would use additional day-care facilities, and to ensure questions ask what services residents or businesses would 'utilize' rather than what is 'most needed.' Several members suggested separating master's degrees from doctoral or professional degrees (PhD, MD, JD) and leaving an 'Other' option for certificate programs and some-college responses.
Committee members described the drafts as a 'durable asset' they can reuse in future years and noted a $2,500 figure for running a town-produced survey versus leaving that component inside SRPEDD’s contract. Members also discussed whether to include familiar local resource names (for example, SCORE and SEED) in a question about respondents’ familiarity; they decided to keep the items but to update SCORE’s label to reflect current usage rather than an old acronym.
A motion to approve the residential and small-business survey drafts as amended passed by roll call: Wilga, Driscoll, Carboni, Howard and Sol(ovilla/Sol Davila) voted 'aye.' Staff said they will publish updates to the town website and coordinate outreach once final edits are made.
