Columbus council approves multiple plats, annexations, ordinances and contracts; several hearings continued

At its Dec. 15 meeting the Columbus City Council approved multiple final plats and annexations for Meadow Ridge and Westfield additions, adopted ordinances selling small city parcels, authorized airport engineering and AV contracts, and continued several public hearings to Jan. 19, 2026.
The Columbus City Council on Dec. 15 approved a slate of plats, annexations, ordinances and contracts, including approval of Meadow Ridge and Westfield additions, adoption of ordinances selling two small city parcels, and authorization of professional services for airport and community audiovisual needs.
The council voted to approve final plats and development agreements for Meadow Ridge additions and moved to include those additions in the corporate city limits. The council adopted resolutions R25-151 and R25-152 approving the final plats and annexations for Meadow Ridge and ordinance 25-19 to rezone portions of Meadow Ridge from RR (rural residential) to R-3 (multi-family residential). John Zwingman of Advanced Consulting Engineering Services said the change will allow duplexes and townhouses, not multi-level apartment buildings, and will reduce side setbacks to permit slightly denser construction consistent with surrounding development.
The council also approved the final plat and annexation for Westfield Addition and adopted resolution R25-153.
On financial and contract items, council adopted resolution R25-155 to approve a professional engineering agreement with Kirk and Michael and Associates for design and construction-phase services for a precision approach path indicator and beacon replacement at Columbus Municipal Airport in the amount of $84,250.81. Council approved a $26,112 quote from Forte for renewal of audiovisual support services for the Columbus Community Building and authorized a purchase from Schieffer Signs Inc. for donor wall signage, $12,475.75, to be reimbursed by the Columbus Library Foundation.
Two ordinances selling small, remnant city parcels were adopted: ordinance 25-20 approving a $200 purchase agreement with Dale L. and Patricia K. Robbins for Lot 1, Block 74, and ordinance 25-21 approving a $315 purchase agreement with Michael L. and Kimberly A. Langan for Lots 23 and 4, Block 74. Council members noted the lots are landlocked remnants that were placed out for bid under city and state procedures.
Several public hearings were continued to Jan. 19, 2026: the Hidden Meadows addition and Heartland Crossing addition hearings will be considered at that meeting. Council asked staff to provide a summary of street miles added to the corporate limits at the Jan. 19 meeting.
The meeting concluded with routine council comments and holiday greetings; the council adjourned and said it will reconvene on Jan. 19, 2026.
