Board approves temporary extension for sheriff’s hire and a vacation buyback for Building & Grounds

Captain Andy Deak of the sheriff's office asked the board to extend a temporary seasonal civil‑section position through March 2026 to allow a candidate relocating from another state time to arrive and complete training; the board approved the three‑month extension. "Sheriff's office is seeking an additional 3 months of extension to what has already been approved by the board," Deak told commissioners.
Separately, Jeff Fuller, director of Building & Grounds, explained an employee faced "use it or lose it" vacation rules for 40 hours but the department would be short‑staffed because another employee is on family medical leave. Fuller asked that the county approve a buyback so the employee could be paid for the unused vacation; the board approved the buyback as presented.
Both motions passed by voice vote and were recorded as carried.
