Unidentified Speaker 1 said humanitarian teams continue to deliver assistance across Gaza amid ongoing air strikes, shelling and denials of rescue operations, and that partners are coordinating missions to collect fuel and medical pallets at crossings.
"Through these missions, humanitarian teams collected 6 full tankers of fuel, more than 270 pallets of medical supplies, and other essential items from the Karim Shalom Abus Salam crossing as well as the Zikim Crossing," the spokesman said, and added that OCHA reported about half of such facilitation attempts were supported by Israeli authorities. He reiterated calls to lift restrictions on the entry of aid — including shelter material — saying those limits constrain the humanitarian response during a cold and wet season.
On Ukraine, officials said hostilities in recent days caused civilian casualties and widespread damage to energy and port infrastructure. The 2025 humanitarian appeal for Ukraine, totaling about $2.6 billion, is only roughly half funded with about $1.4 billion received, the briefing said, leaving significant gaps for relief activities.
The spokesperson also described worsening drought conditions in Somalia that are affecting an estimated 4.6 million people, with at least 120,000 displaced since September and education disrupted for more than 75,000 students. The 2025 humanitarian response plan for Somalia (around $1.4 billion) is only about 26% funded, with approximately $370 million received; the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund allocated $10 million in November but partners said far more support is needed to avert livelihood collapse.
The briefing included additional updates: the Secretary-General’s special envoy on Myanmar, Julie Bishop, has engaged regional stakeholders and met Myanmar’s military leadership in recent visits; in Nigeria, the UN welcomed the release of a group of abducted students while warning many others remain detained; and the UN expressed concern about attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and urged the government to keep all citizens safe.
