The Michigan House of Representatives adopted House Resolution 230 on Dec. 16, offering a memorial tribute to Martin "Marty" Griffin, a former state representative and longtime mayor of Jackson.
Representative Schmalz, speaking for the chamber, recounted Griffin’s public-service career: service in the Michigan Legislature from 2007 to 2010, two mayoral terms in Jackson and leadership on local boards and committees. Schmalz said Griffin “focused on urban revitalization and economic development” and described him as a mentor to future local leaders. Members noted Griffin’s family ties in Jackson and the community’s renaming of a park in his family’s honor.
The resolution, introduced by the Speaker on behalf of the House, summarized Griffin’s biography and public service and directs copies of the resolution be sent to the Griffin family. Members rose and adopted the memorial resolution by voice vote. Relatives of Marty Griffin were present on the floor and were recognized before the House recessed.
