Commissioners approve Lee County 'America 250' logo; manager and finance reports highlight projects and ridership

Chair presented the logo and described committee decisions and budget constraints; a motion to adopt the logo passed by voice vote. Commissioner questions about format (rectangular vs. circular, sale of memorabilia) were answered by the chair, who said the logo is intended for publications and the website and that any merchandise would require donations.
The board also received the November financial report from Miss Waterhouse, who said the county had realized 48.02% of its ad valorem budget by November (compared with a target of 41.67%) and reported that September sales‑tax distributions were 12.95% above the same month last year. Waterhouse noted sales‑tax figures lag by three months and answered commissioners' questions about encumbrances and subscription timing.
County manager updates covered capital projects: the new library construction is nearing exterior completion but experienced a delay on some glazing; temporary heating and interior finish work are underway and the facility move is expected in 2026. Historic courthouse renovation is reaching completion but will require a masonry repair estimated at about $40,000; staff will bring a sole‑source form and contract at the Jan. 5 meeting to cover that work, and a $13,200 change order from Hobbs Architects was already approved by the manager to cover additional time.
Officials also briefed the board on the Buzz Line transit partnership with the City of Sanford: staff reported 615 rides between Nov. 12 and Dec. 5 and said United Way will purchase $5,000 in vouchers in January and had secured an additional $10,000 for vouchers. Manager noted the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) reopened on Dec. 10 following a federal shutdown delay. The board was reminded of upcoming meetings: a Dec. 19 work session, Jan. 5 meeting, and a Jan. 15–16 retreat.
