Council approves $41,532 change order for East Ridge community center upgrades

The East Ridge City Council approved a $41,532 change order to add flooring, restroom fixture upgrades and related aesthetic improvements to the community center expansion project.
Parks & Recreation staff explained the change order covers lobby, concession area, classroom, and restroom upgrades that were not in the original LPRF grant scope. "This change order is necessary for the flooring and the restroom fixture upgrades that were not included in the original scope," the Parks & Rec representative said. Work includes new floor tile/cove base, wall tile behind urinals, replacement toilets and urinals, removal of some existing partitions and painting.
City Manager Miller and councilmembers noted the new gym and kitchen work completed under the LPRF grant and said the remaining older tile at the front of the building looks dated; staff argued it is efficient to do the tile now rather than delay. The motion to approve resolution 37-68 passed by roll call (Yes by Tyler, Cagle, Ezell, Witt and Mayor Williams).
Council members asked technical questions about the senior/multipurpose room and confirmed that recent tiling in the multipurpose room addressed earlier cracking concerns. The change order will be incorporated into the community-center contract work.
