Mindy Taylor, identified as Duke Energy director of government and community relations, announced a $10,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to support structural repairs that will enable more residents to participate in weatherization programs and reduce energy bills. “Today I’m pleased to announce a $10,000 grant to the city of Florence to help you with your weatherization program,” Taylor said.
Council also adopted Resolution 2025-48 recognizing foster-care-crisis awareness in the city and expressing support for the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program; council cited state statistics that reported 3,394 children in foster care statewide and 173 from Florence County during the recitation. Tyler, from the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program, spoke about the need for families and community involvement to support children in foster care.
What happens next: The grants and recognitions are ceremonial and informational; the Duke Energy Foundation grant will be applied to city weatherization-related work as announced by the presenter. Council asked staff to maintain coordination with the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program and local foster-care organizations.
