The Board approved a contract award for the Newman Road sewer lift-station rehabilitation project after bids exceeded the original $650,000 construction budget. Staff reported the project had been planned about two years earlier with a $650,000 construction estimate but that bids came in higher; staff said the prior wastewater improvements allocation (just over $1 million in the prior year) could fund the difference.
Public works staff recommended Southern Constructors for the work and cited the firm's experience with prior city projects. "So as the request, it is $995,000. It is Southern Constructors," staff said. The commission approved the award by voice vote.
Staff described the lift station as integral to handling wastewater flow from Macklewood East to the eastern point of Hamburg and noted the system now receives an additional Birch Creek connection, increasing demand on the station.
