Resident proposes insurance-covered 'nutrition month'; board clarifies athletics posting and VOTEK committee plans

At the public-comment portion of its December meeting, Susie Rodriguez, who identified herself as a Lodi resident and an employee of the Englewood Department of Health, proposed a "nutrition month" wellness initiative for district employees.
Rodriguez described the program as a registered dietitian–led challenge, potentially covered by employee health insurance, that can include spouses and children, provide a 30-minute session with a dietitian for participating staff and incorporate biometric screening to help staff earn insurance reward points. "The nutrition month challenge is a registered dietitian led program covered by health insurance that supports long term healthy habits through simple tracking education and incentives," Rodriguez said, and offered to discuss coordination with district staff.
A board member asked Miss D'Amico whether the district already runs a similar program. The presiding official responded that the program appeared to be a new offering by outside providers and that she would speak with Rodriguez after the meeting and gather additional information by email.
Board members also raised questions about where athletic schedules and public events are posted online. A board member said parents and community members were asking whether athletic and event schedules were available on the district website. The presiding official said the Lodi High School main page includes an athletics icon that links to athletic schedules and that an ongoing website migration is underway; she also noted that newsletters and individual school calendars are used to publicize events and that a mailed newsletter with a scannable barcode is available to subscribe to district communications.
The meeting included a report on the first VOTEK Committee meeting. A board member said attendees provided positive feedback about exploring more technical and trades programming at Lodi High School and elsewhere in the district. The committee will meet again in January and minutes will be distributed to the board.
The board did not take formal action on the wellness proposal during the meeting; the commenter offered to follow up with district staff. For program implementation details, funding sources and whether insurance would cover participation, the district's human-resources and benefits offices would need to be consulted.
