Mayor Othaniel Sierra and newly elected council members were formally sworn in at the council’s regular meeting, and the council certified the Arapahoe County election results despite a vocal dissent. The city clerk read the official results announcing Jack Bethel as the District 2 council member and Steve Ward as District 4; Mayor Sierra and the newly seated members then took the oath of office administered by Presiding Municipal Judge Joe Jefferson.
The council moved to certify the official results provided by Arapahoe County. Member Russell said she would not support certification, saying the county result was not unanimous and raising unspecified local election problems. The motion to certify passed 6–1, with Member Russell recorded as the sole nay. The council then conducted leadership organization: Member Ward nominated Mayor Pro Tem Anderson to continue as mayor pro tem. After a roll call, Anderson won the mayor pro tem nomination with a majority of votes.
The swearing-in was followed by short remarks from the newly seated members. Council also recognized departing council members and introduced Yong Hong, the new facilities manager, who described initial priorities including a work-order management system and developing standard operating procedures for the facilities division.
Council left the meeting with housekeeping items intact: the minutes from prior meetings were corrected per Member Russell’s request, and several consent items were approved.
