Public Works informed the Linn County Board of Commissioners that roadside mowing, tree‑removal projects on the north end and roofing work at county buildings are underway, and that an environmental study for an eastward landfill expansion is expected by February or March.
Jesse Walton, Public Works, said the county is waiting on an environmental study—he identified the presence of a "broad headed skink" during the environmental review—and an as‑built survey before moving forward with expansion. "We're waiting on a few things with the landfill for our expansion... we'll know more about February or March, when they get their environmental study done," Walton said.
Separately, commissioners moved into multiple executive sessions at the meeting. A motion was made and seconded to go into executive session for 10 minutes for non‑elected personnel (B1) with commissioners, the county attorney and selected staff; on return the board reported no action taken. Later the commissioners entered executive session citing KSA 75‑4319(b)(2) to discuss anticipation of litigation related to Public Works and a separate planning and zoning matter; a return announcement indicated no action was taken following those sessions.
The board also discussed procurement issues raised earlier in the Public Works update—whether compactor boxes had been bid and that some vendors did not respond—and ongoing migration of Public Works software functions, with training and transition tasks remaining.
What’s next: Public Works will follow up on the environmental study and provide updates; staff will report back if litigation or personnel issues require formal action.
