Mahtomedi Board Recognizes Longtime Spanish Teacher Anne Gehry

The Mahtomedi Public School District board recognized Spanish teacher Anne Gehry at its Dec. 15 meeting for more than 20 years of service, praising her classroom rigor and student-centered approach.
Justin Hahn introduced Gehry and told the board Gehry’s classes blend high academic expectations with cultural learning, noting students regularly demonstrate language proficiency and engagement. Hahn cited student feedback and the district’s earlier recognition of Gehry as Mahtomedi Public School Teacher of the Year in 2019.
Senior Ruby Stembridge, a Spanish 5 student, told the board Gehry’s classroom “makes everyone excited to come to class” and described immersive lessons — from film discussions to homemade Mexican hot chocolate — that helped students build confidence and real-world language use. “Because of her, many of us have gained immense confidence in Spanish,” Stembridge said.
Board members and colleagues echoed those remarks, noting Gehry’s leadership on building- and district-level committees and her volunteer work in the community. A short photo session followed the recognition.
The recognition was part of the board’s regular meeting; no formal action was required beyond the presentation.
