Commission approves $8,683.51 change order to fix storm-water pump at transfer station

City Engineer Brett Runge described change order No. 3 for the solid waste transfer station, a $8,683.51 positive change to replace a storm-water manhole lid and correct a pump installation that could not be removed through the original opening. Runge said the issue combined a design flaw and installation difficulty; consultant Burns & McDonnell agreed to cover materials and the contractor agreed to perform necessary installation work without additional fees, and the city used its excavator to assist placement.
"Since it was a design flaw, the consultant Burns and McDonnell are covering the cost of materials," Runge said, adding the contractor performed installation without extra fees. Staff recommended approval and the commission approved the change order by roll call.
Runge said, in net, the change order will not increase project cost to the city beyond staff time, and the team coordinated to avoid bringing in additional equipment. The commission authorized the mayor to sign the change order.
