City Engineer Brett Runge told the Huron City Commission the Jersey Avenue drainage project is approximately 93% complete and staff recommended payment of pay request No. 2 to Vanderpoel Dragline Inc. in the amount of $114,795.48. Runge said one remaining 20-foot segment could not be finished until the railroad grants right-of-entry, which has delayed full completion.
Runge said the work targeted drainage issues north of the railroad bridge along the James River and that crews expect to do cold-weather concrete once the railroad permit is obtained. "We're waiting for a railroad approval for right of entry," he said, calling the outstanding segment "only about a 20 foot segment to finish it." The commission approved the payment by roll call.
The engineer cautioned that without that final segment the location could become a maintenance issue over winter, and he recommended staff return with completion details once the railroad responds. The commission took no other action on the project at the meeting and recorded the approved pay request.
