Food pantry warns of higher demand if federal SNAP funding is disrupted; county asked for donations

"So we're really asking for, monetary donations, to be made to the Humboldt County Food Pantry because we can buy food cheaper from the food bank than what you can get," Speaker 4 said.
Board members discussed acting as a regional hub for other pantries and noted the food pantry owns its building—making it a potential centralized distribution point if neighboring pantries lose funding. The pantry also described short‑term purchasing strategies (bulk buys, special store deals) to stretch donations.
No formal board action was taken during the meeting, but members discussed support options and noted a continuing need for donations as winter approaches.
