Zareli Del Vecchio, interim assistant superintendent for human resources, and Sadie Correll, director of nursing, presented administrative rule GCLER Tuesday night to include school nurses in the district’s unencumbered-time policy.
Del Vecchio said the change responds to a state Board of Education amendment issued in August 2025 and implements proviso 1.111 in the general appropriations act. The rule would provide 30 minutes of unassigned time — no scheduled meetings, assigned duties or supervision of students — consistent with existing unencumbered time provisions for elementary and K–10 special education educators.
Board members confirmed the draft rule mirrors the model policy provided by the state association and signaled they will consider final approval at the next meeting.
Why it matters: adding nurses formalizes an expectation of daily planning/unscheduled time for health staff and aligns district policy with state guidance. The rule may affect nurse scheduling and building-level supervision planning.
Next step: staff will return with the final administrative rule at the subsequent board meeting for approval.
