Englewood pulls MOU with Denver Police on camera data from consent for council discussion

City Manager Sean Lewis told the mayor–manager meeting on Dec. 17 that staff will present a memorandum of understanding with the Denver Police Department to share flat camera data to assist criminal investigations and community-safety work.
Lewis characterized the MOU as Denver’s effort to “ensure we are keeping the data private.” A representative from the City Attorney’s Office affirmed that intent but council members requested the item be pulled from consent for discussion rather than approved without debate.
Councilors agreed to discuss the MOU on the regular council agenda so staff can provide more detail about how data access, retention and privacy protections would be handled under the agreement. No formal vote or ordinance was recorded at the mayor–manager meeting; the action taken was procedural direction to place the item on the council agenda for a substantive hearing and decision.
Next steps: Staff will present the MOU, proposed data-protection provisions and any recommended edits at the upcoming council meeting so members can consider whether to adopt the agreement or request changes.
