Westheimer selected chair; Overman approved vice chair as commission readies to fill vacancy

The Flagstaff Heritage Preservation Commission completed officer elections and addressed a forthcoming vacancy at its Dec. 17 meeting.
Commissioners nominated and approved Ace Overman to serve as vice chair; a motion to appoint Overman passed by voice vote. Commissioner Duffy Westheimer volunteered to be chair and was nominated; the commission approved her appointment. The meeting record notes Westheimer recused herself from the chair-vote roll call.
Staff announced that Commissioner Bernadette Bertram will resign; the staff liaison said the clerk's office expects the appointment to fill the at-large vacancy to appear on the Jan. 20 City Council agenda. Staff also invited commissioners to encourage additional applications so the clerk will have options when the council reviews appointments.
Commissioners requested additional onboarding and training for new members, including a session from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO)/certified-local-government representative and the city's annual board-and-commission training. Staff said they will work on scheduling those sessions and will notify the commission when dates are set.
No additional policy changes were decided during the nominations and membership discussion.
