Mableton — Council adopted the Mableton 2045 interim comprehensive plan on Dec. 10, a staff‑prepared document intended to satisfy transition requirements and make the city eligible for certain grants while a full, resident‑driven 2045 comprehensive plan is completed.
Senior planner Sunday Adudu presented the interim plan, which staff developed in house by adapting the county’s plan and inserting local goals and policies. The presentation outlined a town‑center vision, mixed‑use activity centers, protections for industrial job areas, transportation priorities (sidewalks, bike lanes, stronger transit options), and environmental protections for wetlands and stream buffers. Staff cited demographic and housing metrics and emphasized targeting redevelopment along corridors with existing infrastructure.
Council members praised the staff work while noting this remains an interim document and the city will continue to solicit resident input during the full comprehensive plan process. Director Hughes said adopting the interim plan helps the city secure its 'qualified local government' status and positions staff to apply for state grants; he and council members said the full Mableton‑specific 2045 plan will be presented for review during 2026.
Council voted to adopt the interim plan by resolution. Staff will continue working with Grice Consulting, TSW and Atlas Engineering to complete the full plan in the coming year.
