Local editor asks Gates County for county-line signs; commissioners discuss parade and Kids First presentation

Miles Layden, editor of the Apple Mob Observer, asked the Gates County Board of Commissioners to pursue road signage marking entry and exit points on Route 32 so travelers can more clearly see where Gates County begins and ends. "It'd be good to have a sign that basically says, you're entering the... great county of Gates County," Layden said, and offered to coordinate with neighboring jurisdictions.
In commissioner updates, members discussed parade logistics for Dec. 13 and asked for head counts for participation. Commissioner Dave Forsyth said he recently met Kids First's director, Rhonda Morris, and asked staff to consider a short presentation by the organization, noting Gates County is the only county in the 10-county district not contributing to Kids First. No commitment to funding was made; commissioners asked staff to circulate a short slide deck rather than a long presentation.
The board did not take formal action on signage, the parade or Kids First funding at the meeting; staff follow-up was requested.
