Carmel approves seven arts grants totaling more than $1 million for 2026

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved the city's annual arts grants for 2026 at its Dec. 17 meeting, awarding seven organizations grants totaling more than $1 million.
Sergey Grouchyuk presented the list and said the Arts Commission and the mayor's office reviewed and recommended the awards. The grants announced were: Actors Theater of Indiana ($210,000); Booth Tarkington Civic Theater ($210,000); Beckett/Carmel Apprentice Theater ($70,000); Carmel International Arts Festival ($52,000); Carmel Symphony Orchestra ($280,000); Great American Songbook Foundation ($210,000); and Gregory Hancock (listed in the transcript as 'Dense Feeder') ($105,000. The board added the grants to the agenda as an add‑on, moved and approved all awards by voice vote.
Sergey told the board the agreements are identical except for amount and organization name and that all organizations are Carmel‑based and submitted supporting documentation. No additional conditions or reporting requirements were stated at the meeting.
Board members approved the grants by voice vote immediately after the add‑on was presented.
