Bruce Wolf used his three minutes of public forum time on Sept. 21 to urge the council and community to pursue local facilities for people experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental‑health needs.
Wolf cited local properties (he referenced an "old Epic building") and offered rough property‑value figures, suggesting combined costs in the neighborhood of $2.4 million for a building and adjacent land he had reviewed. He proposed a nonprofit oversee combined services — shelter, detox, mental‑health care and vocational training — and suggested recruiting volunteers and support from local colleges and area churches.
"We could come together as some form of agreement either as public or private funding to build a homeless shelter, a detox facility, and also a mental health facility," Wolf said. He urged community partners, including UWS, WITC and other local schools, to contribute social‑work and nursing resources to staffing and training.
The council did not take action in response to the comment; the mayor thanked Wolf and the meeting moved to adjournment.
