Huntersville — The Town Board voted Dec. 16 to approve a contract and a matching budget amendment to replace a failing dehumidification unit that serves the 25‑yard therapy pool at the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics Center.
Town staff explained that the existing DECTRON dehumidifier is operating at reduced capacity, that similar units in other pools had previously been replaced and that the replacement work would include new fabric ("sock") ductwork in a later maintenance shutdown. Two vendors responded to the RFP. "Thermal conditioning did provide a bid of $591,630," staff said on the record; "MSS, their bid was $654,311. So it was a difference of $62,681 overall." The board approved awarding the contract to Thermal Conditioning, citing that firm as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder.
Council members also approved a budget amendment for the contracted amount so the project can proceed; staff said manufacture of a custom unit would take about 20–22 weeks and that installation could occur as early as February 2026 with follow-on ductwork scheduled during the facility’s typical August shutdown.
The motions to approve the contract and the budget amendment carried unanimously.
