Punta Gorda staff update seawall repairs and canal maintenance; spoil‑site survey still pending

Punta Gorda public‑works staff updated the Canal Advisory Committee on Dec. 15 on the status of seawall replacements, budget utilization and the spoil‑site survey.
Mark Storm, canal maintenance supervisor, said crews are actively working on seawall repairs at Osprey (machinery mobilized Dec. 3) and that Gulfview, Darien and Coronado are scheduled next. He told the committee there are "around 4,500 linear feet left for PGI" and that PGI work is about "82%" complete in the current accounting. "We spent a little over 8,000,000 last year," Storm said, describing recent hurricane‑related replacement work.
Storm told members the seawall replacement list is being prioritized for severe cracking and visible movement and that the program will be rolled into council‑approved funding for the next season. On capital projects, staff said a spoil‑site survey for Colony Point has been ordered and that the city is awaiting the state's response and the surveyor’s deliverable; no firm timeline was set for completion and staff said they expect progress after the holidays.
Committee members asked staff to provide a clearer timeline for the spoil‑site survey and to publish a more detailed schedule at the next meeting. The advisory committee will revisit the budget and capital report at its Jan. 20 meeting.
