The Carmel Common Council approved an ordinance to vacate a platted utility easement affecting property at or near 12213 North Meridian Street, a parcel within the KRG Crossing/Republic Airways campus.
Sergey Gertrzuk of the Office of Corporation Counsel told the council the easement dated to 1971 and that the city never used it; staff from engineering, the street department and legal reviewed the petition and recommended approval with suspension of rules. “It was originally for utilities that would be located there, just the city never needed it,” Gertrzuk said.
Council opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Council members asked whether vacating easements previously declared unused had resulted in later repurchases; staff said new easements, if needed for redevelopment, would be granted as part of development approvals and the city would not pay for them.
An ordinance to vacate the easement (D-28-06-25) was introduced, the council moved to suspend rules, and the measure was approved at the meeting.
