The Hammond City board reviewed multiple property-status items and set specific status dates while rescinding one demolition order after inspection staff reported completed work.
For 5217 Homan Avenue, staff said final inspection for panel removal was complete but parking remains an unresolved issue; developer representatives said they have developers on board and are working on a parking solution. Staff recommended a 30-day continuance and the board set a status date of Jan. 22, 2026 for an update.
The board also set 51 Webb for status on Jan. 22, 2026 after staff reported the demolition inspection was completed and the rehab agreement paperwork required finalization.
At 911 Bauer, staff reported cleanup was incomplete and described forthcoming enforcement steps (vehicle tagging and towing after 10 days and a potential repair-or-demolish action for the garage); no action was taken that day.
Inspection staff reported that the final inspection on the building permit for 6126/6166 Harrison was completed and requested rescission of the demolition order; the board moved to rescind the order and concurred.
Staff said MVPC-held property at 944 Murray has permits pulled but no inspections; the board ordered the owner to appear on Jan. 22, 2026 to provide an accurate timeline.
For 8471 17th Street, the owner's daughter, Ashley Sears, said she expects to have occupancy by June and provided a contract from a drywall contractor. Inspection staff requested an inspection before February and the board set a status for Feb. 5, 2026 and directed the inspection department to conduct an interim inspection. Public commenters with rehab projects were given a status date of March 5, 2026 for follow-up.
Next steps: Inspection staff will conduct requested inspections and owners must appear on scheduled dates to update the board; enforcement steps (towing, repair-or-demolish) are planned where cleanup is incomplete.
