Canton Township supervisor Anne Marie announced that the Canton 55 Club will run a volunteer "friendly connections" program offering weekly phone calls to residents.
"It's the time of the year when we look forward to celebrating with our friends and family, gathering together for a meal, and creating cherished memories," Anne Marie said, adding that "these times have been a little harder for some as food insecurity, inflation, and general isolation seems to be on the rise." Patrick, identified as the leader of the Canton 55 Club, said the club "offers a friendly connections program that provides weekly phone calls for friendly conversation to brighten the days of Canton residents."
Officials invited residents who would like a call and people willing to volunteer to contact the program. The Canton 55 Club provided a contact number: (734) 394-5485. The announcement did not specify program funding, eligibility criteria, or oversight arrangements.
The township message was brief and focused on recruitment and outreach rather than formal board action or a vote. The program is described as beginning "during the upcoming year;" no start date or enrollment cap was specified.
