Huachuca City Lions plan post-holiday food drive; trainer outlines Hero Paws service-dog work

Lori Fivko, speaking for the Huachuca City Lions Club on KWCD’s First Watch, said the club will hold a post-holiday food drive from Jan. 3–11 to help local families who continue to need assistance after the holidays. Drop-off times for the related pet-food drive were announced as Jan. 10 (10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.) and Jan. 11 (7:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.), with donations routed to Huachuca United Methodist Church and Sahara (local assistance organizations).
Fivko described Lions Club services including eyesight assistance, scholarships that fund camp attendance for special-needs children, and plans to revive a youth program. She provided contact numbers for local coordinators for donors who need to arrange alternate drop-off times.
Fivko also discussed Hero Paws, a nonprofit that trains companion and service dogs for veterans and first responders living with PTSD or TBI; the program uses shelter-adopted dogs and provides training and placement at no cost to qualifying handlers. Fivko encouraged interested residents to consider fostering or donating to the organization and noted Hero Paws’ website and social accounts for further information.
Fivko closed by inviting new Lions Club members and previewed a podcast episode about pet travel to air Dec. 18.
